The grilled cheese sandwich (or cheese toastie) is a staple for any household. This recipe uses our gluten free baos and toasts them in a skillet to get a crispy exterior. We recommend combining a stretchy cheese such as mozzarella or fontina with a tangy cheese such as sharp cheddar or gruyere for the best combination of texture and flavor! Serve it with a bowl of warm tomato soup for the ultimate comfort food on a cold autumn day!
Level: Easy
Total time: 15 minutes
Yield: 2 servings
Ingredients:
- 4 Gluten Free Bao Company buns
- 4 slices of cheese (we recommend any combination of stretchy cheeese such as mozzarella or fontina, and tangy cheese such as cheddar or gruyere for flavor)
- 1 teaspoons soft herbed cheese (such as Boursin)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- dijon mustard
Directions:
- Cut the baos in half to make 8 half moons.
- Spread the herbed cheese on one half of the baos, and a thin layer of dijon mustard on the other half.
- Cut the cheese slices in half diagonally to form 8 triangles.
- Heat the butter in a skillet on low-medium heat.
- Place the bao halves in the melted butter, spread side up, then top each with a triangle of cheese.
- When the cheese is just melted and the baos are golden brown, flip one half with the herbed cheese onto the other half with the dijon mustard and press together with a spatula to stick the two halves together.
- Serve by itself, or with tomato soup for a heartwarming meal!
